Calendula or Calendula officinalis, is a hardy annual, and member of the Asteraceae or Compositae family, which share a central disc surrounded by spoon-shaped petals. Calendula is a medium sized plant, with a moderately sprawling, yet non-invasive growth habit. It thrives when planted in a clump with 6 or more plants.
It is edible and has some medicinal uses. With a little extra effort you can propagate and grow this annual from seed. This plant will tolerate a lot of different conditions. It likes full sun or partial shade, prefers well-drained soil, and tolerates frost and colder temperatures.
